Deptford is an area on the south bank of the River Thames in southeast London, in the Royal Borough of Greenwich and London Borough of Lewisham. It is named after a ford of the River Ravensbourne.
***TRANSPORT***
Deptford is served by National Rail and Docklands Light Railway services. The National Rail service is operated by Southeastern and Thameslink on the suburban Greenwich Line at Deptford railway station, the oldest passenger-only railway station in London. Deptford station was redeveloped during 2011 and 2012. The works included the demolition of the original 1836 station building and its replacement by a new station to the west in the former station yard. Deptford's DLR station is at Deptford Bridge on the DLR's Lewisham branch.
There are two main road routes through Deptford: the A200 which runs along Evelyn Street and Creek Road,[citation needed] and the A2 which runs along New Cross Road, and is the modern version of the Celtic trackway which was later paved by the Romans and developed into the medieval Watling Street. The A20 marks the southern boundary of the area, along Lewisham Way and Loampit Vale.
***EDUCATION***
There are five primary schools in the area. There are no local secondary schools directly in Deptford, however there are two secondary schools near the border between New Cross and Deptford: Deptford Green, and Addey and Stanhope, regarded by Ofsted as "good". A branch of the further education college, Lewisham College incorporating Southwark College (known as LeSoCo), is located on Deptford Church Street.
***THINGS TO DO IN DEPTFORD***
Deptford (SE8) has a cool creative, slightly gritty South-London vibe—lots of markets, indie food spots, art spaces, and riverside walks. Here are some of the best things to do:
*Explore the markets*
- Deptford Market
One of the last traditional street markets in London.
Runs Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday along Deptford High Street.
Expect vintage clothes, cheap electronics, street food, fruit & veg, and random bric-a-brac.
Locals say the messy flea-market feel is part of the charm.
- Deptford Market Yard
A lively square under railway arches next to Deptford Station.
Filled with independent restaurants, bars, and shops.
*Catch a show or creative event*
The Albany - A well-known arts centre hosting theatre, comedy, music, and spoken-word events. Also has a café and community events.
Deptford X - London’s longest-running visual arts festival. Features exhibitions, installations, and street events across the area.
*Walk in parks or nature spots*
- Sue Godfrey Nature Park. A small local nature reserve with 200+ plant species and butterflies.
- Brookmill Park. A pretty riverside park along the River Ravensbourne.
- Ferranti Park. Small modern park with artwork and play areas.
*Check out local art spaces*
- A.P.T. Gallery – contemporary exhibitions in an industrial warehouse-style space.
- SE8 Gallery – small independent gallery showcasing emerging artists.
Deptford has a big DIY art scene, so galleries and pop-ups appear often.
*Go out at quirky pubs & bars*
- The Bird’s Nest – legendary alternative pub with live bands.
- Little Nan’s – eccentric cocktail bar with retro décor and themed parties.
*Riverside & architecture*
- Walk along the Thames near the Pepys Estate and spot Aragon Tower, a striking riverside residential tower with views across London.

* Generally speaking Guide Prices are provided as an indication of each seller's minimum expectation, i.e. 'The Reserve'. They are not necessarily figures which a property will sell for and may change at any time prior to the auction. Virtually every property will be offered subject to a Reserve (a figure below which the Auctioneer cannot sell the property during the auction) which we expect will be set within the Guide Range or no more than 10% above a single figure Guide.

By setting a proxy bid, the system will automatically bid on your behalf to maintain your position as the highest bidder, up to your proxy bid amount. If you are outbid, you will be notified via email so you can opt to increase your bid if you so choose.
If two of more users place identical bids, the bid that was placed first takes precedence, and this includes proxy bids.
Another bidder placed an automatic proxy bid greater or equal to the bid you have just placed. You will need to bid again to stand a chance of winning.
